Making hair shade references easier to compare

GuestI need a removable fringe for a costume, and I am trying to compare its color with my natural hair. My own photos are in window light, but the sellers show their samples under much brighter studio lights. Several options share the same brown label even though some look golden and others look almost reddish. While looking for clearer terminology, I found hair color analysis and started thinking about which color characteristics I should describe when contacting a seller. Would you compare darkness before warmth, assuming I can get photos under more similar lighting? Because the piece touches my own hair, even a modest difference could stand out at the join. The costume will be worn indoors, so I would also compare the sample in that room. I can request a small physical swatch if the pictures remain inconclusive. If you have matched a fringe or extension, what helped you judge the color at the join?
